All from the phylum Echinodermata, these marine animals were abundant in the fossil record from the Paleozoic onward. Each group has living representatives.

The camerate crinoids are an extinct subclass of Paleozoic stalked crinoids that originated in the early Ordovician. Crinoid stems are one of the most abundant fossils in some areas.
